In Ten: Lisa Roy

Today's In Ten post comes to us from Lisa from lisaroy blog. She is a fellow Canadian gal but has been living over in Dubai for the past few months and reading about her adventures has been so enjoyable. I know all of you will love this stunning post she put together for me, thank you again Lisa!

Hi everyone! I'm Lisa from lisaroy blog {a designer obsessed with pretty things, beautiful spaces, interesting places and...handbags!}. I'm so happy to be guest posting for Melissa while she's away working on her tan!

Since Melissa is lying on a beach somewhere, let's talk about beach style. It's no secret that I love beach style. And just because we don't all live by the sea doesn't mean that we can't have a home that feels like we do. Here are 10 ways to bring beach style into your home, even if you live in the city.

1. embrace slipcovers
Whether they're white or a gorgeous shade of turquoise, slipcovers will instantly transform your furniture into beach style.

2. lay down some sisal
Roll up those heavy wool rugs and lay down some cool, natural sisal.

3. accessorize naturally
Shells, coral, stones, beach glass are easy ways to instantly feel beachy.

4. keep it cool
Introduce some blues and aqua tones to evoke the colours of the sea.

5. lighting style
Consider the lighting you install and find styles that feel light and nautical.

6. install beadboard
Nothing says seaside like beadboard in the bath or panelled walls throughout your home.

7. add stripes
Adding some stripes will instantly give a nautical feel to a room, especially in navy blue.

8. keep it casual
Worn paint finishes and simple styling keep the feeling casual.

9. add texture
Baskets for storage and matchstick blinds add wonderful texture to pale spaces.

10. vacation art
Maps of travel destinations or beach-themed art are a perfect way to say "relax".
And there you go! Easy peasy!
Thanks Melissa for having me and I hope you are having a wonderful, relaxing beach vacation!
