It is located in the middle of Prince' Island Park on a lagoon where the Bow River passes through downtown. You feel like are are someplace else, not in a bustling growing city where sometimes people do not take the time to enjoy a good conversation or wonderful meal in a peaceful setting.
By far my favorite time to go is in the winter. You can no park on the island, so there is always a short walk over a bridge to get you ready for the experience. One of my most memorable trips was when Rob and I were celebrating our 3 year wedding anniversary, it was incredibly cold outside and once we got into The River we were sat in front of a huge bustling fireplace and had warm apple cider at our table within seconds to warm us up.
Besides an award winning wine list the food is top notch. The River is very conscious of the food they serve, selecting the best from the region. Serving all organic and free-range products from local farmers and producers is a huge part of the way they run their business and help out the community at the same time.
If you are ever lucky enough to venture up to Calgary, make sure to have one or all of your meals here. You will not regret it!
Hope you have an amazing weekend and Happy Easter!! Mel xoxo
